About the product
The SDC-650 is an intelligent Ethernet (TCP/IP) system controller designed to significantly enhance modern access control capabilities. It serves as the successor to the legacy SDC-550 controller, introducing a range of advanced design improvements and enhanced functionality, including integrated Micro SD support for expanded storage capacity, an intuitive OLED control module for simplified setup and local diagnostics, and full compatibility with secure OSDP communication channels.
The controller is equipped with five (5) relay outputs (potential-free contact/powered output) and eight (8) programmable digital inputs, enabling it to efficiently manage a wide range of access configurations such as five standard doors, two bi-directional turnstiles, or a single booth/mantrap setup. With the added flexibility of Remote I/O expansion boards, the system can be extended to control up to eight (8) doors per controller, depending on installation requirements.
The SDC-650 features a robust isolated multi-drop RS-485 terminal network connection capable of supporting up to sixteen (16) terminals. This architecture allows for scalable system expansion, enabling Remote I/O units to be added either to increase door control capacity or to provide additional I/O points for devices located in remote or distributed environments.
In addition to its standalone functionality, the SDC-650 can be seamlessly networked with other SDC-650, SDC-620, or SDC-320 controllers to form a fully scalable and centrally managed access control system. Communication is handled via a robust isolated multi-drop RS-485 controller network, engineered to withstand electrical surges of up to 2.4kV, ensuring stable and reliable system performance.
The system provides centralized management of configuration settings, user access rights, and event reporting through the SACS platform. At the same time, each controller operates independently, maintaining full decision-making capability and local event storage, ensuring uninterrupted operation even if communication with the SACS Server is temporarily disrupted. Once connectivity is restored, all stored events are automatically synchronised with the central server.
The SDC-650 is supplied with a 15Vdc 5A power supply and a 7Ah battery backup, all housed within a secure lockable enclosure for enhanced protection and reliability. For flexible deployment, the controller is available either as a complete cabinet unit or as a standalone PCB, depending on system requirements.
Installation
The SDC-650 Controller is designed with user-friendliness and flexibility in mind, delivering a comprehensive and streamlined access control solution.
The controller cabinet includes a detailed connection diagram on the inside of the door, providing clear and concise guidance for reader, input, and output wiring. A Quickstart Guide is also supplied with the unit.
The dual-mode relays can be configured as either powered outputs or potential-free contacts using onboard jumpers, allowing flexible integration with a wide range of locking devices and electrical systems.
Communication with the SACS Server is achieved via standard TCP/IP over LAN/WAN using the onboard RJ45 port. The system supports both DHCP and static IP addressing, with initial configuration available via the onboard OLED display. Once connected, access control settings for doors, readers, and system parameters are managed through the SACS software platform.
Diagnostic LEDs are positioned near key terminals to assist during installation and troubleshooting. End-of-line resistors can be easily enabled via onboard jumpers, removing the need for external termination components.
Operation
Any changes made on the PC are immediately synchronized with the controller and stored locally. When a user presents their credential at a reader, the controller processes the data in real time and either grants or denies access based on configured permissions and rules.
